Bahera is a deciduous tree mostly found in the regions of Southeast Asia. These trees have a straight trunk which has a colour of brownish grey. Leaves of these trees are long, oval and alternate and grow in clusters at the tip of the branches. Upper and lower parts of the tree are male and female respectively. Flowers are mostly yellow or white in colour. Fruits bear a shape of ovoid and are grey in colour.
The scientific name of this plant is Terminalia bellirica. It belongs to the family of Combretaceae. The other names of these plants are Bahera, Baleric, Bibhtaki, Vibhitaka, Aksha and Bastard myrobalan etc. The flowers bear offensive odour. The kernels in the covering of these fruits are sweet but are they are narcotic. The flowers are green in colour.
