Grevillea robusta is a perennial which grows in almost all the soil. Grevillea robusta is also known as the southern silky oak, silk oak or silky oak or Australian silver oak. It is the largest of its species. It is native to eastern coastal Australia. Flowers are golden orange bottlebrush-like blooms.
Grevillea robusta grows into a tree and like most of the tree Grevillea robusta is also low maintenance and fast-growing. This plant needs very little lighting and not much of water and therefore it can be grown almost anywhere in any type of soil.
This plant does well in acidic, well-drained soil under full sun but grows in almost every soil.
It can do well without water for weeks. During the early stage, it needs plenty of water and during regular times watering can be done once in four days. When grown, this plant can be left without water for weeks and month since the roots attract the water from the soil.
This plant can withstand a heavy sunlight and it needs a lot of sunlight but can be grown inside with shady lighting. It can also grow in shady lighting so it will not be a problem to grow in indoors. This plant grows into a tree and so it is best to plant outside.
The flower of this plant is golden orange in colour and this flower grows up to a size of about 5 inches which gives a good look to the living room.
This plant grows to a height of 18 to 35 metres and spread up to 15 metres which also can be grown inside until it gets large enough.
Fertilizers like Garden Gold or Yates Acticote can be used for growing this plant. During early stage dilute the fertilizer and use it once in a week for better growth and when the roots are fully grown very low dilution rate can be used for fertilizing.
This plant is deer resistant and it cannot tolerate frost during its early stages and so protect it from frost by keeping it inside during frosty conditions. It is deer resistant and does not attract any insects and bugs and so this should not be a problem.
It is said that this plant has some of the medicinal uses but it may be rumour and do consult a doctor while using this plant as that would be necessary.
