They are easy to grow and moderate maintenance plant. They can be planted in any containers

Hibiscus requires ample of water, moist soil and high humidity to grow.

WATERING

Water them daily during the summer. Excessive watering can lead to dropping of hibiscus.

Let the soil dry out between the watering. Water the plant with 4 to 5 cups of water alternately. The soil should be moist in texture but should drain well.

The plant cannot tolerate stagnant water.

FERTILIZERS

Sprinkle certain iron and magnesium-rich fertilizers while re-potting the plant.

Also feed them regularly with organic fertilizers

Feed the plant with potassium compost once in a week during the blooming period. You can also feed hibiscus with a slow release fertilizer as they require a lot of nutrients to grow. Cut short the amount of fertilizers during the winters.

They require bright to partial sunlight to grow. Hibiscus requires temperature from 20 to 30° C to grow

Warm and cozy weather is suitable for the plant.

You can keep them under the afternoon sunlight where it receives direct sunlight for 5 to6 hours.

SOIL

Hibiscus requires coarse soil to grow.

Hibiscus grows well in root bounded containers. They require a little amount of space to grow.

FLOWERING

SIZE

The average height of the plant is around 1 to 2 feet. Hibiscus should be planted with a space of 4 to 6 feet apart as they spread widely.

PESTS

Hibiscuses are prone to Gall midge. It is an insect which feeds on the buds turning them yellow. Use appropriate insecticides targeted to the pest.

Other pests, particularly thrips affect the plant, causing them to decay and fall. Use organic pesticide once in a week to prevent them

Hibiscuses are edible flowers. Most probably they are used for culinary purposes. Some people use it making jams, tea, and pickles. They are rich in minerals and vitamins and are often used in garnishing.
