It is widely grown in the tropical and semi-tropical regions of the world for its nutritious fruits. The plant is said to have an Indian origin.
The Mango Alphonso is famously known as the Aam Hapus. It is acknowledged as the "King of Fruits" in India.
The Aam Hapus plant is widely cultivated in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
The bushy plant produces one of the most expensive varieties of Mango grown in India.
The Mango Alphonso is fairly easy to grow and to maintain.
The plant should be grown in the sunniest spot of the garden. The depth of the hole dug for plantation should be 12 inches.
The plant grows well when a warm temperature and average room humidity is maintained.
The Mango Alphonso can grow up to a maximum height of 1o to 40 metres.

Any organic fertiliser can be applied to the Mango Alphonso.
The use of chemical fertilisers should be avoided during the first two years of plantation.
During this period, nitrogenous fertiliser can be applied to the plant.
It aids growth and increases fruit and flower production.
The fruit is edible and is widely consumed because of its taste and nutritional value.
It is also used as a flavouring agent for ice cream, juices and cocktails.
