Being greenery favourite Rhoeo Spathacea has many names such as Moses in the boat, Moses in the Cradle and Oyster plant. The foliage is tri-colour which is pink, green and white stripes with purple colour under-side. The leaves of these plants grow in cluster and are sword-shaped which grow from a stem that is trunk like. Though these plants are tender perennial they are considered as an annual plant.
Rhoeo Spathacea compacta is also known as Moses-in-a-basket, Tradescantia spathacea, the boat lily, moses-in-the-cradle, boat lily and oyster plant The plant is widely grown all round the world as a houseplant, owing to its ornamental features. It also serves in the gardens as a fast growing ground cover. It belongs to the Commelinaceae family. The plant is considered to be a native of Florida and Tropical America.
Rhoeo spathacea and Tradescantia spathacea are synonymous with each other. These plants are a succulent herb. The flowers of these plants have three petals and grow in the purple bracts which are boat-shaped nestling inside the axils of leaves. The bract with a whitish small flower in the middle of it seems an eye.
