A native plant of Southern African regions like South Africa and Mozambique these plants are perennial and evergreen plants. These are mostly used in decorating the house as a container plant or groundcover.
Asparagus Meyeri is also known as Foxtail fern, its scientific name is Asparagus densiflorus. It's often confused with Asparagus aethiopicus while both of them are from different species. It has smaller spines compared to other asparagus plants. Needle-like green leaves of these plants form a cushion with long stems.
As soon as the seeds are planted, watering must be started thoroughly and within few days new plants will be seen growing. Watering must be continued and the plants must be watered every time the soil gets dried up.
It must be grown in well-drained soil while a hot climate and an outdoor environment also help in the growth of the plant. Repotting must be done in each spring once in a year to provide a better condition for the growing root system.
These plants grow well when there is water in plenty though they can survive in shorter drought periods and thus the soil is wet all the time and water must be put every time the soil gets dried up.
During winter and in conditions of low light less watering is needed while during summer months frequent watering is required.

Flowers grow four to five weeks after the planting of the seeds while in the next season that is in summer the berries grow following the flowers.
Flowers are of pinkish-white in colour and grow in summer.

The growing period of this plant demands fertilization every four to three weeks and for a fully grown Asparagus fertilizing the plant monthly will be fine.
The fertilizer must be poured or sprayed on the soil till it gets saturated.
If the berries are eaten it may cause abdominal pain, vomiting etc. and these plants can also be toxic to domestic animals like dogs and cats.
