Chikoo plant is an evergreen tropical plant. It generally lives long. It has a fruit which is essentially sweet in taste. Chikoo plant grows best in a tropical climate. Drop in temperature may result in the death of the plant. It is also grown indoors.
The scientific name of the Chikoo Plant is Malinkara Zapota or Sapodilla. It is born out of the genus of Malinkara and belongs to the family of Sapotaceae plants.
It is a fruit-bearing evergreen plant. It is native to Southern parts of Mexico, Central America and a wide portion of the Caribbean.

The diameter of a Chikoo fruit varies from 4cm to 8cm in average. The flesh inside the fruit is either pale yellow or earthly brown in colour, when the fruit is fully ripe.
The unripe fruit has a hard shell and releases chicle from the stem if plucked in that state. The ripe ones does not release chicle though. The skin of a ripe fruit is shaggy.
The Chikoo fruit has a sweet and malty taste, when fully ripe.
