Native to Europe and Asia, Dianthus is often called as carnation, pink and sweet William.
About 300 species of Dianthus is present and they are found in varieties such as annual, biennial and perennial.
The flowers are mostly coloured in pink, salmon, red and white with a spicy fragrance of cinnamon or clove notes.
This plant needs less maintenance as its bloom period is very less until a breeder learned how to increase its bloom period.
Needs a large amount of sunlight and soil should be fertile, well-drained and alkaline.
Watering the dianthus is done once in a week but during the blooming period, water it once in two days.
The soil should be fertile, fast draining and alkaline nature with a pH balance around 6.75 level.

Remove dead flowers to make the plant bloom more as the seeds are present in the dead flowers and in order to produce more seeds, it blooms more.
It can grow up to an immense height from 6 inches to 36 inches and can spread for 4 to 18 inches wide.
