Ficus Elastica plant is a plant which is easy to care for. The plant should not be over-watered. The level of water for the plant should be sufficient. If the plant is found dry, then the watering should be done. But, there should not be too much of watering.
The Plant grows well in low light. The direct sunlight should not be given to the plant. The bright light is also ideal for the plant.
Ficus Elastica plant requires cold temperature. The average temperature of 60 - 75°F (15 - 24°C are fine. Avoid lower than 55°F (12°C) is the temperature for the plant. Sudden drops of temperature or cold drafts are also not good for the plant.
The soil that the plant should be kept in should be well-drained and well-aerated. The composition should be 1 part peat, 2 part pine bark, and 1 part coarse. This mix is ideally the best mix for the plant.
The fertilizer feeding should be done every two weeks. Fertilizer feeding to the plant should be done during Spring and Summer.
Normal room temperature humidity is fine.The leaves can mist when it gets warm in the summer and improve the humidity for the plant.
The soil needs to be renewed every year when the plant is young. Later, once in 3 years, repotting should be done.
These can be quite tricky to propagate by stem tip cuttings, but you can succeed. Take a cutting (few inches long) and allow the sap to dry for 1 hour. Before potting the cutting in soil use rooting hormone and then provide the bottom of the pot some heat (usually using a heating pad). The temperature wants to be kept at around 70°F (21°C) - 75°F (24°C) ideally.
Once the rubber plant has grown to the height you want it to grow up to, you can cut the top off. You may also want to prune back any unwanted branches to give the plant a fuller shape.
