BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Echeveria Lindsayana is a succulent plant from the genus Echeveria in the Crimson family, Crassulaceae. It is commonly grown as a houseplant.

BASIC CARE

Echeveria Lindsayana is quite hardy and hence easy to care for.

LIGHTING

Echeveria likes abundant sunlight but direct sunlight in the hotter season can scorch the leaves. It is better to plant it in a sheltered region where it'll receive abundant sunlight while being protected from harsh afternoon rays. If the leaves are scorched, they can stay on the plant for a long time and give it a burned look so it is better to get rid of them as they'll probably not heal.

FLOWERING

Echeveria Lindsayana mostly forms a single dense rosette about 40cm in diameter with unique arching fleshy lance-shaped leaves. The leaves are pale green or blue-green in colour with their pointed edges tipped red. Orange-yellow or pinkish flowers appear around midsummer with arching stems.

WATERING

Although the plant is quite drought resistant, it should be watered regularly for best results. Water deeply and then wait for the topsoil to dry out before watering again. Don't let the soil go one dry. Also be cautious never to over-water the plant. Boggy conditions can harm the plant. Both over-watering and under-watering can cause problems in the plant including wilting, shrivelling and dropping leaves.

SOIL

The plant does not have any specific soil preferences. Just make sure that the soil is well-drained. Use a slightly acidic soil if possible. Enrich the soil with organic material like compost or manure. Add a layer of mulch over the soil to maintain even temperatures. The container used should have appropriate drainage holes.

SIZE

The plant grows about 8 cm in height.

FERTILIZERS

The plant is not a big feeder and grows pretty well in soil without nutrients too. But they might benefit from an occasion extra boost. You can use a slow release liquid fertilizer at the beginning of spring. Use a low nitrogen mix or a cactus fertilizer. Make sure to water the plant before fertilizing as the plant is very susceptible to fertilizer burn. Also, remember never to over-fertilize.

PESTS

Echeveria normally remains pest free but watch out for mealy bugs, vine weevil and aphids. Treat with appropriate pesticides immediately.

BENEFITS

Echeveria Lindsayana is a very hardy plant and can thrive in conditions most plants don't. You can use it fill up those empty bare, too-sunny or too-shady places in your garden. It is perfect for a rock garden too.
